Nike Epic React
One running shoe that could do it all: offer more cushion from the impact of each stride, give the energy return needed to stay fresh late in a run, feel light underfoot and also be able to withstand wear and tear of impact and elements run after run.
Sounds like a challenge. But not for Nike. They actually call it Nike React and it is by far one of the most technological advanced products released by the sportswear giant. Nike innovators, chemists, engineers and designers came together and worked for over 3 years to deliver a solution in the form of a foam, the Nike React, significantly softer than EVA-based foams of the past.
We tested the Nike Epic React Flynit during the Nike Go Day in Mexico City and couldn’t be more impressed by it. The foam smooths the bumps in the road really effectively and since the midsole is extended beyond the perimeter of its upper around the heel, it provides both cushioning and stability.
Computational design was used to create the midsole, which is one piece of Nike React foam with no carrier, cement or glue. This method also helped to eliminate materials not absolutely necessary in order to keep weight to a minimum.
The shoe’s upper is simple yet eye-catching. The forefoot, toe and arch are very sculpted thanks to the one-piece Nike Flyknit bootie that was engineered for support, flexibility and breathability. Minimal and close to the foot but still supportive.
After 400 iterations and 17,000 miles of test running, Nike has released a shoe that has it all; there is no need to choose between comfort and a lighter build anymore. The only decision and the most difficult to make will be: which colorway to choose? Our winning choice: The Green Matcha.
