Just over a month ago we attended the second edition of NYFWM, a week dedicated to menswear where we made some amazing discoveries and were able to see the collections of established and emerging designers who have become some of our style references for the autumn-winter 2016 season.

During this chaotic and fun trip, we also had the opportunity to visit a place that has become a global phenomenon and has positioned itself as the favorite spot of seductive characters like Jay Z, Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow, and even the ubiquitous Kardashian clan. We are talking about Zuma, the hotspot created by Rainer Becker in 2002 and which so far has 9 locations around the world.

We decided to wait to tell you about this place because just today they are inaugurating their tenth location, now in the ancient city of Rome at the Palazzo Fendi, a unique and exceptional location.

Our visit to Zuma NY began when we arrived at the intersection of Madison Avenue and 38th Street Outside, an elegant and minimalist façade welcomed us and the first surprise came as we walked through the door and the hall: the place is huge, both in extension and height. More than 100 people can sit comfortably in the main dining room. We gave a closer look at the space, walked part of the first floor and gradually discovered the key points of the restaurant, like the sushi bar, the Robata Bar and the Sake Bar.

The design was conducted by Noriyoshi Muramatsu of Studio Glitt, who was also the creator of the design concept for all the Zuma locations around the world. Industrial design in contrast with natural materials, capturing the essence of this global chain which is inspired by the 4 elements: earth, fire, water, and air.

Space and decoration turned out to be a premonition of what would come later with the dishes: Contrasts. Japanese dishes with Western touches. High design juxtaposed with pure and simple materials. Each dish is a work of art full of sophisticated simplicity.

First, we tried lobster tempura with spicy ponzu and wasabi mayonnaise. A great dish to start, because although the presentation is something monumental; inside the shell of a lobster and served in a huge plate; the portion is ideal in size and flavor.

The second dish deserves a separate category, simply the presentation is spectacular: Rib Eye with wafu sauce served with truffles and flamed corn. This dish is part of the Zuma’s Signature Dishes, which means that it is available in all of the Zuma’s locations. Finally, we tried a platter with a selection of sashimi, each cut prepared with great skill and precision.

Still fascinated by the dimension of the space we decided to explore the second floor where we found several private rooms, some overlooking the main dining room. Depending on the event they can be joined and receive up to 180 guests. Finally, we headed to the exit; the visit was very interesting, delicious and definitely a highlight a little different than what we have expected from a visit to New York for Fashion Week.
