The taxi approaches 8th Avenue, crossing right in the middle of Times Square. Although it is early, a sea of people begins to flow down Broadway. After several red lights and waiting for some distracted tourists to cross the street we reach our destination: Row NYC.
The 28-story hotel rises on the site where until recently the Milford Plaza was located. The renovation of over $140 million certainly has made Row NYC a benchmark in this restless area of Manhattan.
Immediately upon entering, a glass facade more than 10 meters high takes advantage from the lights of Times Square. The two-story space is connected by a grand staircase that adds a dramatic and theatrical sense, very ad hoc to the Theater District, while the guests are led to the artistically decorated lobby with industrial and organic materials including steel curtains, concrete, wood, and neon.
Check-in is pretty fast considering the number of guests at the hotel, the sea of people is not unique to the New York streets. We ask how many rooms are in the hotel “1,331 and we are at full occupancy,” says the incredibly friendly concierge. Everything makes sense.
But even with hundreds of people in the hotel, as we get to our room everything is peace and silence. Minimalist inspiration merges with pop accents. Anyone who has seen a map of the NY subway will understand why they chose colors like green, yellow and red to accentuate the decor of the rooms that range from singles to suites.
The details are everywhere; from the corridors decorated with images of iconic sites of the city like Soho, East Village, Greenwich Village, the Lower East Side, and the Meatpacking District, to the shutters in the room’s windows that wish you good morning or good night as you open or close them.
A hotel that invites you to embrace the adventure and that takes the best of the city and brings it into the most unexpected places to make guests live the “More New York than New York” experience at all hours. The day is just beginning in New York but as the city that never sleeps, this hotel is up 24/7. We realize it upon returning several hours later, exhausted and ready to enjoy a deserved rest in the delicious king size bed in our room. People now enjoy cocktails at District M, the hotel’s pizza bar and some groups of friends are preparing to go to one of the many bars, restaurants, and shows in the area.
Great service, good atmosphere, and extremely comfortable rooms but no doubt Row NYC’s biggest asset can be defined in three words “Location, location, location” because of its privileged spot regardless of the type of trip you have planned for your New York adventure.
Dapper Tip: Don’t forget to explore the small magazine shop located behind the elevators. You can find independent magazines and also international versions of almost all the major publishing houses in the world.
