Soft sculptures that convey vulnerability and physical strength

by | Mar, 2019

A fruitful dialogue with the art world has always characterized Marni’s identity. A constant research into works by established and emerging artists, draws on their inspiration and imagination to complete its collections.

The Spring 2019 menswear collection is a reflection on bodies, which are naturally imperfect, yet elegant and harmonious. The body’s honest purity is expressed through work by two artists, whose works come to life on garments borrowed from the imagination of the most varied sports.

German artist Florian Hetz gives a vision of bodies as custodians of memory, manifestos of deep intimacy. His photographs depict textural, carnal nudes in magnificent close-ups that emphasize their sculptural strength. Marni combines them in impossible collages on baseball jackets and t-shirts, pairing them in a mix of graphic elements and colour blocks.

American artist Betsy Podlach offers a different vision that reflects on the poetry of the nude and on the forms that it manages to assume by fusing with another body, exalting the differences in an almost abstract amalgam. Marni applies these romantic visions to wraparound garments made of soft towelling or unites them with Hetz’s visions in a surprisingly harmonious clash of narratives.
